Phish in the paper.

Watkins Glen International saw a huge influx of Phish fans yesterday as people continue to get ready for 3 days of music with Phish this weekend at Super Ball IX. By 8am The Bunny radio station was up and running and playing great music from all genres.

We started our SBIX Pictures and SBIX Video pages which will be updated often throughout the festival. This is a great way to see what’s going on, almost as it happens.

Phish took too the stage briefly on Thursday afternoon for a soundcheck. It lasted for a little over an hour and included: Jam > Undermind, Sleep Again, My Soul, Ginseng Sullivan, Jam. Read more about it at Hidden Track.

You can get the MP3 of the soundcheck at mediafire.com.

The front gates at Super Ball IX don’t officially open for a couple more hours but people are already starting to swarm to Watkins Glen International for Phish’s SBIX festival this weekend. A weekend of music, art, food, drink, and merriment is about to begin!

We’re going to be posting photos as they come in from fans at Super Ball IX, so be sure to check out our SBIX Pictures page for the latest images from the festival. We will also post reports from fans at SBIX to keep you informed with what’s going on at Watkins Glen International. If you have anything interesting to share from this weekend, then email us at PhishSuperBall@gmail.com.

Official Super Ball IX Phish Festival Layout Map
Click for larger view.

With just a few days before Super Ball IX is set to begin, festival organizers have released the official layout map. Previous attempts to figure out the details of the map have been shown to be somewhat correct, but somewhat off base as well.

The SBIX map shows different sections within the general Camping areas labeled as states in which Phish has never played. Accessible and Family Camping are located adjacent to the concert grounds. There’s also a larger view of the concert grounds area which includes the Ball Field, Farmer’s Market, Mist Tent, Crafts, Ben & Jerry’s, JEMP Records, House of Live Phish Tent, Re Charge, Beers of the World, Pinball Lounge, General Store, Ball Square, Concert Field, and various other locations of interest like ATMs and food.

There is a good amount of information on the map for fans to learn more about the wristband policy, details for different tents, stores, parking, and accessible areas, as well as medical treatment.

Super Ball IX Layout Map - Phish Festival Map
Cleaned up festival map thanks to Jonny Schaefer. Click for a full view and a bigger map.

Editor’s note: Click here for the official SBIX map!

Not to be confused with the official Super Ball IX festival map, it seems some clever sleuthing by some fans has turned up what appears could be a legitimate layout map of the festival grounds.

A rudimentary SBIX map(below) was found on emsvending.com, the website of the company responsible for managing at least some of the beverage vending at the festival. The map is used on their site to show vendors where they can arrive, park and camp at Super Ball IX while they work for the weekend.

Super Ball IX Vendor Map

PT’er and HoodStream moderator Jonny Schaefer took a closer look at the map and found each section of the festival site by reading small print while zooming into the image. The map at the top of this article shows his labels for different areas laid over a Google map satellite image of Watkins Glen International. It should be known that the sections for RV and Family camping are not so evident on the map, but other areas should be legit.

This new map differs slightly from other versions of layout maps that circulated soon after Super Ball IX was announced in March.

Sure, you might want to use a big grain of salt when using this map to make any plans, if there are any plans that even could be made at this time. But all things reconsidered, it looks like the map could be mostly correct. We’ll all know in a week anyways.
